Often choked with traffic and riddled with potholes, Highway 43 has been a source of ire for the city of West Linn and its residents for years. The city has spent years planning improvements for the highway — which is owned and managed by the Oregon Department of Transportation — and in 2008 approved the first rendition of the Highway 43 Concept Plan. The plan was updated in 2016, but nearly a decade later those planned improvements have yet to come to fruition.

A number of recent community food drives have helped the West Linn Food Pantry restock its shelves after the local nonprofit depleted its stores faster than any year in its history. The pantry recently received donations of 400 and 900 pounds from Cedaroak Park and Stafford primary schools, respectively. Additionally, the annual orange bin food drive organized by West Linn resident Laura Jeffrey surpassed last year’s total of 3,000 and brought in 4,133 pounds of food this November.

With the West Linn Food Pantry giving food to more families on a weekly basis than ever before, the 17-year-old nonprofit finds itself in greater need of donations. According to Food Pantry board member Debbie Meyers, the pantry currently serves an average of 50-60 families per week, with a recent high of 74 families. Demand at the pantry, which serves residents of West Linn and Lake Oswego, has grown significantly each of the last five years. kAmx? E9:D E:>6 @7 ?665[ E96 #@E2CJ r=F3 @7 (6DE {:??
