Doctor Who has been a fixture of the BBC since 1963, and, having delivered just shy of 900 episodes since its premiere, it’s become part of the fabric of British culture. It stalled for a period between 1989 and 2005, but it’s been on a roll since its noughties regeneration, with pen-lords including Russell T. Davies, Steven Moffat, and Mark Gatiss among those writing its family-friendly sci-fi stories. If you want to step inside the show, here’s what to know about the casting process.

Fancy spending an evening at Shakespeare’s Globe, but without the Shakespeare? For the first time in its 28-year history, the theatre has commissioned a revival of a classic play outside of the Bard’s repertoire. It’s chosen Arthur Miller’s perma-popular 1953 hit The Crucible – a warning cry on McCarthyism wrapped up in a small town tale of 17th-century witch hunts – that with its depictions of mass hysteria, floundering morality and a community in crisis always feels unsettlingly pertinent.

Think it’s testament to how good this production is that, despite being sat a mile from the stage and in a row with an almost comical soundtrack of snoring, rustling, whispering and phone beeping, I’ll remember it as one of the best plays of the year https://t.co/ybbgGt9ILh
