Shopping in small, independent businesses is becoming increasingly popular, especially in the aftermath of the huge impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. The various lockdowns sadly lead to many local businesses closing their doors for good. There are however plenty across Essex who are still open and rely on the custom of locals to keep them going. In Colchester, you can find lots of small independent shops down the town's "South Lanes".

As the first recorded town in Britain and once the capital city, it has seen rulers from the Romans to the Celts and the Normans. A stroll around the town reveals a plethora of historical structures that narrate part of its story. Alongside these, there are also some striking modern builds that draw the eye. From reality stars, to pop stars, this Essex secondary school has played a part in many showbiz stars' lives. The Coopers' Company and Coborn School is a secondary school and sixth form in Upminster. It is now a non-selective school, and has been since the early 2000s.
