Connacht SFC semi-final: Galway 1-24 Roscommon 0-18Rob Finnerty’s eight-point haul ensured Galway remain on track for a fourth Connacht title on the bounce as they put Roscommon to the sword in unusually benign conditions at Pearse Stadium, Salthill. The gulf between the teams was reflected on the scoreboard as Pádraic Joyce’s men set up another provincial meeting against Mayo in Castlebar in a fortnight’s time.

A goal in the seventh minute of injury time from Jack Donnelly rescued a fortunate draw for the Roscommon senior hurlers in their second round Nickey Rackard Cup contest at Markievicz Park on Saturday afternoon. Sligo had recovered from a five-point interval deficit to deservedly lead by three points but, despite only being three minutes of injury time being announced, at least seven were played by referee James Judge, and Roscommon made the most of the reprieve to force a share of the spoils.

Roscommon senior football captain, Brian Stack, has been named in the team to face Galway in Sunday's Connacht SFC semi-final at Pearse Stadium. The St. Brigid's defender hasn't featured for the Rossies since going off injured during the league game against Monaghan in mid-February.

Three players from County Roscommon were part of the AbbVie panel that savoured All-Ireland Intermediate Inter-firms success for the first time in County Cork on Thursday evening. St. Michael’s duo Fiachra Henry and Mick King alongside Declan McDermott from Kilbride were part of the successful squad that captured AbbVie’s first-ever All-Ireland crown. Henry captained the Sligo team to their 1-11 to 1-6 success against Boston Scientific from Cork in Bishopstsown.

In Davy Burke’s mind, Sunday’s Connacht semi-final against Galway isn’t “season-defining”, although he vows that his team are going to Salthill to win. Not that it bothers him, but the jury continues to deliberate on whether Roscommon can turn a corner and make something out of a season that has already delivered promotion to Division One, albeit in a scruffy manner.
