The wife of a motorcyclist who has died following a crash which also claimed the life of Garda Kevin Flatley has paid tribute to her late husband. Izzet Can Berber, aged in his thirties, was involved in the fatal collision which occurred at Dublin speed checkpoint on the R132 at Lissenhall near Swords, North Dublin last month. Garda Kevin Flatley became the 90th officer to die in the line of duty in Ireland when he was hit by the motorcyclist during the collision on Sunday, May 11.

Co-owner of ‘Cheeky Cherubs’, Sarah O’Leary from Enniskeane, said the last week was busy with preparations but said she is “extremely grateful to be living something I love”. Sarah and her friend and business partner Michele Akerlind, from Kinsale, met “in a past life in an engineering office”. “Michelle suggested the idea of us creating a creche together, and I have been so grateful since,” Sarah told the Irish Independent.

Temperatures are set to soar to 24C today, marking the hottest day of the week. But temperatures will remain in the high teens and low twenties for the next week to 10 days, with only-slightly cooler temperatures on the east coast. It comes after the the Islamic Cultural Centre in Clonskeagh, south Dublin, said it was left with no choice but to close temporarily to the public after a “deeply troubling” incident last Saturday. It is understood the incident relates to a meeting about the future and governance of the centre which descended into turmoil.
