A Longford primary school recently became the first school in the county to achieve all ten Green-Schools flags. Scoil Bhríde Glen National School in Edgeworthstown were awarded the Global Citizenship Food and Biodiversity flag at an awards ceremony held in Athlone last week. The school started the programme in 2003 and now have earned all ten Green-Schools flags. Principal Eilish Keogh paid tribute to the work done by past staff and students in achieving this historic milestone:

There have been further calls for financial and other supports for those farmers affected by the Lough Funshinagh flood crisis in south Roscommon. Cllr Tony Ward once again called for compensation for those whose farms and lands have been devastated by floodwater. A temporary pipeline was installed at the former turlough in south Roscommon earlier this year.

Uisce Eireann has been criticised in the Dáil over its management of water services in Co Leitrim. Frank Feighan says Leitrim County Council has taken over the management of over 100 housing estates over the past eight years. But he says only five have had their water infrastructure taken over by Uisce Eireann. The Fine Gael TD says the body seems unwilling to work with local authorities:

The Taoiseach says he'll raise the plight of those affected by a massive gorse fire in west Roscommon with the relevant ministers. Micheál Martin was responding to Sinn Féin TD Claire Kerrane in the Dáil today, who said the fire in Gortaganny earlier this month was the 'worst ever seen in the county'. Fire services from across Roscommon and Mayo attended the scene several times after it broke out on Sunday, May 18th.

Criminal proceedings are under way into a crash in Carrick-on-Shannon in which an American woman died. The incident happened nearly two years ago on the outskirts of the town. This case relates to a two-vehicle crash on the R280 at Lisnabrack, Carrick-on-Shannon, shortly before 6 o’clock in the evening on September 21st, 2023. A passenger in one of the cars was Anne Hutchinson, with an address of 4988 Elgin Cir, Syracuse, New York. The 54-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later.
