    A Roscommon priest, based in the US for 66 years, is delighted with the appointment of the new Pope. The man now known as Pope Leo The 14th became the first ever US Pope last Thursday. Monsignor Kevin Flanagan is from Kilglass in Co Roscommon but has been based in the US since his ordination in 1959. He’s currently based in Paterson, New Jersey, and gave his reaction to the Pope’s appointment to Eoghan Murphy:

That's according to Ballintober's Gail Murray, who is bidding to replace deceased councillor Anthony Waldron. Ballintober's Michael Holland Senior is among the other candidates - and councillors will have the final say in two weeks' time.

    The Longford ESB area has been deemed to be the worst place for power cuts in the country. Data provided by the Irish Mail on Sunday revealed the area had the highest risk of power cuts last year. The ESB Longford region includes parts of Roscommon and Leitrim, where 995 outages were counted for the year of 2024. During these outages, 88,190 customers were affected, out of which just over 41,000 were provided by the ESB.
