If you were asked to name the first thought that comes to mind when I say the words “concept album,” what would you say? For most, it would be fair to assume that nothing compares to the prog rock English band Pink Floyd and their monumental achievement that is The Wall. After The Wall‘s release at the tail end of 1979, the band began touring the album shortly after. The first show was performed on February 7, 1980.

November 13, 2023 On Nov. 14, 1998, Lauryn Hill became the first female rapper to land a No. 1 hit on The Billboard Hot 100 Chart. “Doo Wop (That Thing),” the lead single off Hill’s debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, would spend two weeks atop the charts. The song earned Hill recognition at the 1999 Grammy Awards, where she won five awards, including Best New Artist, Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Album of the Year.

MJ Lenderman came out of nowhere and took my ears by complete surprise. In fact, he exposed me to an interesting new genre and sound: indie twang. Lenderman creates slow, indie-fueled rock songs and ballads with elements of country twang that are just the right combination of styles. This just works. I am not a big country music fan whatsoever, but this style caught my attention immediately.

I love playing my guitar. It’s the one thing that truly shuts my brain off and can be used as a creative outlet and an escape from my grueling daily tasks. There are few things that compare, and I’m so happy that the instrument has become a fundamental part of my life. With that said, sometimes I feel a little out of sorts, perhaps a little uninspired. The only way to break out of my funk is to get up, grab my headphones and throw on the music that truly inspires me to play.

November 6, 2023 I would have to argue that everyone knows at least one Led Zeppelin song — at least one. And chances are that song came from Led Zeppelin IV. Led Zeppelin released Led Zeppelin IV on Nov. 8, 1971, as their fourth studio installment. It was also their fourth self-titled release.
