PENNSYLVANIA. (WHTM) – Senate Republicans say the proposed tax relief would slash personal income tax from 3.07%-2.8%. “We have driven an agenda about empowerment. And today what we’re talking about is empowering the taxpayer,” said Senator Joe Pittman. President Pro Tempore Kim Ward says the proposal will add up to a three-billion-dollar tax cut. It would also roll back an Ed Rendell income tax increase which he signed 21 years ago.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– Central Dauphin School District is having its first school board meeting on Monday night since the death of high school student, Justin Johnson. The Dauphin County Coroner ruled Johnson’s death “natural,” caused by sickle cell disease and cardiomyopathy after the 16 year old died on April 26.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Harrisburg man is fulfilling his mom’s wish by graduating from college. “I never thought I would graduate college,” said graduate, David Kern Jr.On Saturday, Kern graduated from Penn State University at 44 years old. Kern struggled with substance abuse for a decade, starting at 17 years old. “Finally, in 2007, I actually got clean and sober and I’m now over 16 years clean and sober,” said Kern. This wasn’t Kern’s first attempt at getting a college degree.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– A fire company for the Harrisburg-area will have its fate determined at a meeting Wednesday night. Swatara Township Board of Commissioners will consider removing Friendship Fire Company of Bressler and if approved this would eliminate fire and rescue emergency services at the station. Last month, the station was suspended after a complaint of racial discrimination at the company’s affiliated social club.
