A longtime Lincoln Board of Education member died Wednesday after an 18-month long battle with oral cancer. Lanny Boswell, 54, who began his tenure on the board in 2013, was in the midst of finishing his third term on the Lincoln Board of Education, which was set to conclude in May. “We mourn the passing of Lanny as a longtime public servant, and an incredibly dedicated school board member,” said Interim Superintendent John Skretta.

A Tuesday evening traffic stop in northwest Lincoln led law enforcement to find about 49,000 suspected fentanyl pills worth nearly $1 million. The Lincoln Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force and the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office were tracking a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox SUV at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation when deputies observed the driver make numerous traffic violations.

One candidate faced defeat during Tuesday’s primary election in the race for the four open Lincoln Board of Education seats, while two candidates competing in another district came within 300 votes of each other. Seats in districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 are up for grabs on the seven-member board representing Lincoln Public Schools this spring. The races are officially nonpartisan and two candidates in each of three races were set to advance to the May 6 general election. There was one uncontested race.

A central Nebraska school district is investigating a “deeply painful” incident in which high school students allegedly posed with a hate symbol on school grounds, sparking discourse online and leading to calls for better Holocaust education. A photo showing two Aurora High School students in a school locker room holding a red Nazi flag while giving a thumbs-up began circulating on social media last week, prompting district officials and local police to launch an investigation.
