NSP expanding crime lab to keep up with growing demand

Project will cost $26M LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)– The Nebraska State Patrol is working to keep our state safer by expanding its crime lab. Wednesday it broke ground on the $26 million project. The existing crime lab, off Air Park Road,will increase from 31,000 square feet to 59,000 square feet. NSP said since the crime lab opened eight years ago, work has increased 23-percent.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln is partnering with CenterPointe to help better serve people in a mental health crisis by mental health professionals and police responding to calls together. CenterPointe said it had 6,400 crisis intervention contacts with people this year – highlighting the need for the program. Mental health professionals will provide their expertise and resources to those in crisis, while LPD officers maintain safety and security through the Co-Responder Program.

LINCOLN, NEB. (KLKN)– First responders are on the scene of a fire in northeast Lincoln. Around 9:00 p.m. crews were called to a home near 42nd and Adams Street. A detached garage was on fire and it spread to another garage. Lincoln Fire and Rescue said the garage is a total loss. No injuries have been reportedThe cause of the fire is still under investigation.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The bridge collapse in Baltimore, although it was caused by an accident, puts a spotlight on the condition of bridges across the nation. The U.S. Department of Transportation considers 6.8% of the more than 600,000 bridges it tracks to be in poor condition; that’s more than 40,000 bridges across the nation. Iowa and South Dakota are among the worst in the country. 19% of Iowa bridges and 17% of South Dakota bridges are in poor condition.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)– Police are looking for the man who robbed Good2Go gas station near Havelock Avenue and Cornhusker Highway Sunday morning. An employee told Lincoln Police the suspect came into the store with a handgun and demanded money around 11:15 a.m.Police say no one was injured in the incident, but the suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash, and officers are still searching for him. The suspect is described as a 25 to 30-year-old white male wearing black clothing.
