DETROIT, Mich. (WLUC) - Your trusted team at TV6 & FOX UP has received statewide recognition once again. The Michigan Association of Broadcasters named us a 2024 Station of the Year. The honor was handed out Saturday night in Detroit. Overall, our team picked up top Broadcast Excellence Awards in 14 categories and merit awards in 13. The full list of honors is below.
Private investigator offers reward for information about ‘suspicious’ Delta County fires

NAHMA, Mich. (WLUC) - A private investigator is looking for more information about a deadly Delta County fire and another fire that destroyed a resort’s main building. The fires happened in Nahma in 2021 and 2022. TV6 filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit to uncover how these fires were investigated. Just before 5:00 a.m. on Sept. 26, 2022, a fire destroyed a home on River Street in the middle of Nahma.
New Houghton County prosecuting attorney resigns

HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) - Houghton County’s new prosecuting attorney is stepping down at the end of this month. Paul LaBine was sworn in on July 24. At that time, LaBine said his primary task was to aggressively recruit some attorneys for the office. LaBine said Tuesday that he’s been unable to get any help, and it’s not a one-man job to prosecute the county’s criminal cases.
MSP Sault Ste. Marie vehicles lit on fire, shot by a rifle, suspect at large

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Michigan State Police says a suspect should be considered armed and dangerous after they lit multiple MSP patrol vehicles on fire and shot them with a rifle Wednesday morning. The MSP says this happened around 3:30 a.m. at the Sault Ste. Marie MSP Post. No troopers were in the vehicles at the time. The suspect is described as a white man wearing camouflage. He was last seen driving a silver Honda CRV.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - A popular downtown Marquette restaurant and brewpub is under new ownership. Kristi and Terry Doyle, longtime owners of The Vierling Restaurant and Marquette Harbor Brewery, have sold the business to their employees. “It’s a magical spot,” said Terry Doyle. “It’s on the corner of Front and Main. You can’t get any better than that.”Thirty-eight years ago, after nine months of renovations on their own, the Doyles opened The Vierling in October 1985.

Marquette County rollover kills 1

ELY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - An Ohio driver is dead after a rollover crash in Marquette County Saturday evening. According to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a one-vehicle crash on Marquette County Road 581 near County Road CD around 6:05 p.m. Saturday. Investigators say a vehicle traveling south on 581 ran off the road and crashed into a guardrail. The vehicle re-entered the road and crashed into another section of the guardrail.
Man seriously injured, 2 arrested after Escanaba bar stabbing

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - A man was seriously injured after a stabbing early Saturday morning at an Escanaba bar. According to Escanaba Public Safety, officers were called at 12:24 a.m. to the back lounge area of the Granada Bar for a report of a man who had been stabbed. Arriving officers found the man had been stabbed in the abdomen and had serious injuries. He was taken to OSF Hospital for treatment by Rampart EMS.
Spaceport opponents request zoning change to block potential Marquette County rocket launch site

POWELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - Powell Township could soon ban rocket launch sites and spaceports, like the one proposed at Granot Loma. At Wednesday night’s Powell Township Planning Commission meeting, residents who oppose the launch site delivered a petition that asks the township to amend its zoning ordinance.
