CARNEY, Mich. (WLUC) - This weekend, you can dust off those old cowboy boots and hats and head to Carney for bulls, broncs and barrel riding. Friday, riders worked their horses through the paces as they took to the rodeo ring to warm up for the annual Carney Roundup Rodeo. “This is our 18th year, but it’s actually our 17th rodeo because of COVID,” Rodeo President Joe Hudson said. Hudson says it’s a “complete rough stock” rodeo.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Pieces of glue, drywall and molding lie on the gallery floor at the Bonifas Arts Center. It’s part of the effort to get the center ready to reopen after last month’s fire. As TV6 previously reported, a lightning strike caused the fire. It devastated the theater. The resulting smoke damaged the entire building. The art galleries first underwent extensive cleaning. Now, other work is being done.

UPPER MICHIGAN (WLUC) - On Saturday and Sunday, you have the opportunity to try out some free outdoor activities. The Michigan DNR is hosting its Three Free Weekend. You will be able to fish, ride ORVs and visit state parks without any licenses. All fish rules and regulations still apply and conservation officers will be out patrolling just to make sure people are being safe. DNR spokesperson John Pepin says this is an opportunity for more people to be introduced to new nature activities.

FLORENCE COUNTY, Wis. (WLUC) - For the first time in almost a decade, golfers are again teeing off at the Spread Eagle Golf Course. The course officially reopened last weekend after months of cleanup. Operations Manager Margo Erickson says community members played a large role in bringing the course up to speed. “Honestly, I would say the biggest challenges were being able to find and have enough manpower to be able to pick up all the sticks and debris,” Erickson said.
