A Kentucky woman is celebrating an $80,000 lottery win after nearly tossing the winning ticket in the trash. Pamela Howard-Thorton, of Shepherdsville, told Kentucky Lottery officials she had been eyeing the $5 Flamingo Bingo scratch-off game for some time, but hadn’t gotten the chance to play, according to a Wednesday release from the agency. Lexington residents in need of emergency assistance are asked to text 911 or call 311 for emergency services following an outage Thursday afternoon. In a release around 1 p.m., officials said a “provider issue” has left the city’s 911 emergency system nonoperational. Incoming calls are ringing, but not reaching operators. Operators dispatch fire, medical services and other first responders. The city said 911 operators are monitoring the calls and attempting to reach callers using a different system.
