CEDAR CITY — A Canyon View Middle School student was in critical condition after authorities believe she was hit by two vehicles while walking on Interstate 15 in Cedar City. Lt. Cam Roden with Utah Highway Patrol said the accident happened at 8:38 a.m. Friday near exit 59. On Friday afternoon, Shauna Lund, communications director and foundation coordinator for the Iron County School District, confirmed the girl was a student at Canyon View Middle School.

PAYSON — If there were ever a soundtrack to service, the sound of bagpipes and drums would be a fitting choice. KAYSVILLE — The Kaysville Fire Department is set to receive a new heavy rescue engine. But there’s something about this engine that sets it apart from any other truck in Utah. The new heavy rescue is a Quantum chassis from the Wisconsin manufacturer Pierce. That in itself isn’t too remarkable — the department said this will be their fifth one in operation. But Pierce recently discontinued the Quantum, meaning Kaysville’s new truck will be the last one ever produced for a Utah fire department.

SALT LAKE CITY — Some Utahns are getting access to experimental Chick-fil-A sweets before most of the country can get their hands on them. The popular fast-food chain announced that Salt Lake City would join San Diego, Chicago and Tampa in being test markets for two new products: The Icedream Spin and Icedream Float. The Icedream Spin, Chick-fil-A said, is an ice cream treat spun with your choice of fountain drink — similar to the company’s now-classic frosted lemonade.

SALT LAKE CITY — A Southwest plane had to abort takeoff from the Salt Lake City International Airport after blowing a tire on the runway, a spokesperson for the airport said. The spokesperson said the flight was set to leave for Oakland before the incident occurred. Flight status for the trip shows the plane was supposed to take off at 2:35 p.m., and was delayed until 6:28 p.m.No other flights at the Salt Lake Airport were delayed, the spokesperson said.
