Excessive rain in portions of central New York on the evening of June 6 prompted a flood watch from National Weather Service Binghamton. Monitor forecasts online at weather.gov and be prepared to take action by reviewing flood safety resources should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Ithaca Fire and Police Departments responded to a fire in the stairwell of the twelve-story building at 118 Green Street, aided by NY State Police officers and Bangs Ambulance personnel. Firefighters worked for several hours to control the flames and ensure the safety of all residents, remaining on scene until shortly before 11 p.m.Residents were temporarily displaced from their apartments as crews worked to clear the hazardous smoke and gases.

Historic Ithaca is hosting its yearly Memorial Day cleanup at the Ithaca City Cemetery May 26. The non-profit and additional volunteers will clear branches, trim trees and clean selected grave stones. The Groton American Legion post 800 will host Memorial Day services at 12 cemeteries surrounding the village starting at 9 a.m. on May 26 at Graves Memorial Cemetery. The Newfield Historical Society is hosting a Memorial Day Service at Woodlawn Cemetery at 10 a.m. on May 26.
