Dutch Fork's softball team is moving on to the next round. The Silver Foxes defeated Wade Hampton 5-1 in an elimination game Friday night. Each team entered the contest with a previous postseason loss, meaning the loser's season would be over. Dutch Fork broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning after Haley Alderman hit a ball to left field, scoring three runs. The Silver Foxes extended their lead when Alderman stole home following a wild pitch.

Gray Collegiate softball star Aspen Boulware has big dreams for her future, and they don’t stop at college ball. “ I want to be the greatest,” she said. “ I want to go out there and do things people don't do.”As a sophomore, Boulware is drawing interest from many Division I softball teams. She has succeeded at every level she’s played and has her eyes set on Olympic glory. For many high school athletes, that may sound out of reach. But Boulware is on track to make her dream a reality.

Spring playoffs are here, which means the high school sports year is coming to an end. As teams all around Lexington County prepare for the postseason, many of the area’s best athletes will look to continue their stellar play and lead their team to a trophy. This week’s Athlete of the Week winners guided their teams through the regular season into the playoffs. One has already secured a state championship. The other begins his postseason journey this week.

The South Carolina men’s basketball team will look a bit different next season. Head coach Lamont Paris recently announced the addition of six incoming transfers, highlighted by the return of All-SEC guard Meechie Johnson. Johnson returned to South Carolina one year after his return to Ohio State. Johnson spent two seasons with the Gamecocks after previously transferring from the Buckeyes.

Two major track and field meets just took place in Lexington County as teams prepare for the upcoming SCHSL state championships. The Lexington County Championships and 5A Region 4 Championships put some of the county’s top track and field athletes against each other. These meets are two of the final few chances right before the state finals to give athletes a gauge for how they stack up. The Lexington County Championships were first up, taking place on April 25 at Lexington High School.
