It seems that a certain grocery store chain has more up its sleeve for the Wasatch Front. A recent state meeting hinted at a new Trader Joe’s location that could be opened in Holladay in the near future. Though the company has not confirmed that’s the case, it’s common practice for the company to avoid giving a confirmation until shortly before the location is set to open.

Downtown bike commuters may have to wait for more off-street space on 300 West as part of the continued fallout from Senate Bill 195, which added an extra layer of scrutiny on Salt Lake City transportation initiatives. A crucial connection on the 300 West Bikeway, part of the recent 300 West reconstruction, won’t be developed, according to an update posted on the city’s website for the project.

A slate of 22 new townhomes could join similar developments along 2100 South in Liberty Wells, as the Salt Lake City Planning Commission voted Wednesday to move forward with the plans with a taller building height than typically allowed in the zone. The project — located at 377 E. 2100 South and named the 21st 400 E. Townhomes — was quickly approved by commissioners in a unanimous vote.

A Salt Lake City gastropub could soon have its second location, as members of the Holladay Planning Commission voted earlier this month to move forward with plans for a mixed-use development along Highland Drive. On May 6, the city’s Planning Commission approved a site plan amendment for Emigration Brewing Company’s new location, which would be located at 5025 Highland Drive. The plans also include an eight-unit residential development behind the planned restaurant.

It’s been over six years since Salt Lake City voters approved the Funding our Future street reconstruction bond, and city officials are approaching the end of their list of roads to improve — just in the nick of time. Since the 2018 vote, the bond has not only paid for reconstructing dozens of roads throughout Salt Lake City, but also improvements to bike trails and upgraded bus lines in cooperation with the Utah Transit Authority.
