Sports Moniteau’s new football coach will be a familiar name. Former Warriors quarterback and recent assistant and junior high coach Clay Kohlmeyer is expected to be approved Monday night during the next Moniteau School Board meeting as the varsity football team’s next head coach. Kohlmeyer will replace Bob Rottman, who stepped down Nov. 4 after six seasons after 9-48 with a District 9 Class 2A semifinal appearance his first year.

It’s a year of new for Butler County girls basketball teams. A few new coaches. A new start for the regular season (Friday, two weeks earlier than it’s been in years). Some new sections or opponents for WPIAL teams. But there is still plenty fans will be familiar with. Mark Maier and Amelia McMichael (West Chester) are back, trying to lead Butler to a fifth playoff berth in eight years. And Steve Andreassi and a talented Karns City team are looking to three-peat in District 9.

There are nearly a dozen Butler County football players who have committed to play college football or have received offers to play at the next level. The top recruit in the area is North Catholic’s Brady O’Hara, a three-star tight end expected to convert to offensive tackle when he gets to Penn State next year. But there are many others looking to compete at the Division I, II or III level.
