Family of missing LDF woman speaks out

LAC DU FLAMBEAU, Wis. (WJFW) – As the search continues for missing 37-year-old Lac du Flambeau woman Melissa Beson, her family is now speaking out in an effort to hopefully find her. Beson was last seen March 17on Indian Village Road in Lac du Flambeau, right near the home she shares with her family. Authorities have searched for clues between surveillance footage, social media, friends, bank statements and more.
Never Forgotten Honor Flight sendoff held in Wausau

WAUSAU, Wis. (WJFW) – A send-off dinner was held in Wausau earlier this evening for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight this week. “You need that opening to heal…and healing is what the Honor Flight does,” said Vietnam War Veteran Gary Koch, who spent over 40 years in the service. Koch lost three of his men while he was on Rest and Recuperation and experienced survivor’s guilt and nightmares for years. The Honor Flight tried multiple times to get him to come down to DC for the experience.
World's Largest Trivia Contest held at UWSP's 90FM

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WJFW) – The World’s Largest Trivia Contest is back at UWSP’s 90FM this weekend. The 54-hour trivia marathon asks 8 questions per hour and teams from all over the world have the length of two songs playing on the radio to submit their answers. “’Trivia 55: No Limit.’ And it is what the name is…it’s the world’s largest Trivia Contest,” station manager Derek Tritz said.
Exploratory copper and gold drilling coming to Taylor County

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WJFW) – There have been no active sulfide mines in Wisconsin for decades. But a mining moratorium was repealed by Governor Scott Walker in 2017. Since then, there has been some exploratory drilling, and the DNR recently approved another mineral exploration. The Canadian mining company GreenLight Metals was recently cleared for drilling in Taylor County’s Bend Deposit, which is believed to contain around 4 million tons of gold and copper.

WISCONSIN, USA (WJFW) - Protests aimed towards President Trump and Elon Musk called "Hands Off" erupted across the country today. Protesters also took to the streets of downtown Eagle River on East Wall Street and surrounding sidewalks. Protesters also fled to the front of the Rhinelander court house to picket in response to how the trump administration is handling various issues such as civil and human rights, public education, social services, immigration, the economy and much more.
Granite Peak hosts annual pond skim

WAUSAU, Wis. (WJFW) – Granite Peak Ski Area partnered with The Bone and Joint Orthopedic Clinic of Wausau for the annual end-of-winter Pond Skim at Rib Mountain. Skiers flew down the hill and attempted to glide fully across the water while dressed in various costumes. Joe Steiner, who dressed as Hulk Hogan, said this was his best pond skim yet, as he made it fully across the pond. “It’s my first year making it across so it was good,” Steiner said.
Youth Impact: Trout in the Classroom at Land O' Lakes Elementary

(WJFW) – Third and fourth grade Land O’ Lakes Elementary School teacher Ivy Lapp is taking her class through an immersive biological lesson called “Trout in the Classroom.” Her students are hatching trout in class that they will eventually release into Stormy Lake in Conover. The class is working with Trout Unlimited and the Wisconsin DNR.

ROTHSCHILD, Wis. (WJFW) – It was an angler’s delight this weekend at the Central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center. Hundreds of vendors were on-hand to offer all of the newest products to muskie fishers who are gearing up for another summer on the lakes. Jim Rauman, the owner of Skie Hunt, is one of those vendors. He sells bucktail lures that offer various methods of configuration.

(WJFW) – The town of Pickerel trudged through the poor elements and held its 34th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday. “The rain is a bear, it’s a bear…nobody like to be out in the rain,” Head said. “But, you know, we’ve gotta do it.”Attendees of today’s Thirty-fourth annual Pickerel St. Patrick’s Day were not afraid of the heavy showers that led up to the parade.
Rhinelander Firefighters participate in ice rescue training

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WJFW) – Members of the Rhinelander Fire Department were on Boom Lake today for a certification course on rescuing people who are stranded in the water from falling through ice. Today’s course helped Rhinelander firefighters learn some of the key do’s (and do not’s) of ice rescues.
