A Dundee pub is in line for a six-figure transformation after its roof was blown off during a storm. The Charleston Bar has been closed since sustaining severe damage during Storm Arwen in 2021. Plans are now being put in place to bring the once-popular Charleston Drive pub – known locally as the Charlie Bar – back to life. City Centre Pubs Dundee, run by the Marr family, has taken over the bar and hopes to have it open next year, subject to planning approval.

Police guarded a vehicle overnight after “masked men” allegedly torched a car on a Dundee street. Forensic officers were in attendance on Longfield Drive on Tuesday morning after a vehicle was badly damaged. Neighbours said two fire engines attended the scene at around 9.45pm on Monday night. The interior of a white Mercedes-Benz was destroyed, and police have confirmed they are investigating the blaze.

Costa Coffee has reopened its Broughty Ferry cafe after a refurbishment of the premises. The Brook Street chain closed its doors earlier this month to undergo a “transformative renovation”. Following a full refurbishment, the store reopened to customers on Thursday. It now features a refreshed counter design, new furniture and updated flooring. Francesco Russo, area manager at Costa Coffee, said: “We’re incredibly excited to reopen our Brook Street store in Broughty Ferry.

A 50-year-old man has been charged after a “wilful” blaze at a flat in Dundee. Thick plumes of smoke were seen pouring from a flat on Strathmartine Road in the Hilltown area on Wednesday night. Residents raised the alarm shortly after 11pm, prompting a significant emergency service response. Speaking to The Courier, one man said he heard shouts of “fire, fire, fire” echoing through the building to alert other residents.

A partially sighted Dundee FC fan says he felt “humiliated” after being told he needed more proof he was disabled when renewing his season ticket. Willie Tanner, 68, visited the club shop on Wednesday to secure a cheaper ‘early bird’ offer ahead of next season. The Broughty Ferry man says he got into a dispute with a staff member when he was asked to provide proof he was registered blind – despite having no issues last season.
