Operation Reboot Outdoors, a nonprofit that aims to reconnect U.S. veterans to the wilderness, had a successful opening day hunt Monday. Two veterans, one from Maine and the other from Virginia, harvested three birds with the help of registered Maine Guides. Operation Reboot Outdoors was founded in 2019 by Daniel Waite, an Army veteran. He and a team of volunteers lead visiting veterans on free, guided hunting and fishing trips and other outdoor excursions.

The Maine Legislature will soon vote on LD29, a bill to approve the creation of the 26-mile-long Merrymeeting Trail. The project would turn the lower road railroad corridor into a recreational path between Brunswick and Gardiner. "There's a trail in Brunswick now, the bike path, and in Gardiner there's the Kennebec River Rail Trail, so it would really connect Augusta all the way to Brunswick," said Jeremy Cluchey, chair of the Merrymeeting Trail board of supervisors.

The Bath Fire and Rescue Department is hoping to raise $10,000 to restore the city's first piece of firefighting equipment, the Kennebec Hand Tub. It was purchased in 1847. "Back before we had motorized vehicles to pump water, they had horse-drawn apparatus such as this one," said Bath Fire Chief Lawrence Renaud.Renaud went on to explain that long poles on both sides of the tub were deployed, and several men on both sides would pump the unit to move water to the fire.

It's been more than a decade since the ice bucket challenge first went viral in support of ALS research and awareness. Now, social media users are pulling the buckets and bags of ice back out for mental health. Active Minds is a mental health non-profit with chapters in 48 states - 5 in Maine. The chapter at the University of South Carolina started this movement.

A hospital stay in the neonatal intensive care unit or pediatric intensive care unit can feel overwhelming, so the Babygirl Foundation is stocking parent closets with items to make the stay a little bit more comfortable. Tammy Dube, a co-founder, and her family spent years in and out of the Maine Health Barbara Bush Children's Hospital with their daughter Addison. She remembers that experience as feeling scary and lonely.
