The owner of the North Shore's Bluefin Bay is building a new resort on another giant Minnesota lake: Mille Lacs. Del Mar Dunes in Garrison, Minn., is expected to include 40 coastal-style multi-unit buildings on the western shore of Mille Lacs Lake, a $50 million investment. Eventually, Silver Bay native Joe Swanson hopes to add a lodge. The project gives Swanson a hospitality footprint in three distinct Minnesota destinations.

When a Jeep cut me off and then slowed to several notches below the speed limit, I first gasped and then gestured wildly, swearing. These things I remember. But a sensor I was wearing to capture my heart rate and electrical changes in my skin, along with a vehicle “black box,” revealed more: aggressive braking and accelerating and a rapidly beating heart. It didn’t help that it was in the middle of the workday, when I am almost always stressed.

By Jana Hollingsworth A project is underway to permanently prevent the Canisteo Mine Pit in northern Minnesota from overflowing into the nearby city of Bovey. The pit - actually multiple former mine sites that merged as they filled with water - has seen the water level rise 5 to 7 feet each year, the state Department of Natural Resources says. Bovey is directly south of the 5-mile-long pit and near one of the first spots where water could overflow.
