    Charlottesville residents living outside of the University of Virginia’s campus do not need to “shelter in place” while UVA Police and multiple agencies conduct a manhunt on and around UVA Grounds. According to Kyle Ervin, the Charlottesville Police Department public information officer, the situation seems “only contained to that area.”No shots were fired, and there were no injuries, the UVA Police Division said on X (formerly Twitter).

    The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing Wednesday, Feb. 5 on a proposed solar energy project at Buck Island. A national solar company called Nexamp Solar is seeking permission to build a 12-acre solar panel array on a 105-acre parcel to the west of Campbell Farm Lane and Buck Island Road. They are asking for a special use permit to include approximately 43 acres of the property.

    Charlottesville City Schools will hold a series of public meetings beginning this week through March to answer questions and gather feedback as it finalizes its proposed rezoning of the city’s elementary schools. City Schools began work to rezone its elementary schools in summer 2024 to “prevent overcrowding while also balancing socioeconomic diversity across schools,” according to a district news release. The next meeting to discuss the changes is this Tuesday, Feb.
