For the first time in a decade, a Stanford Cardinal fencer is the NCAA champion. Her coach, four-time Olympian Alexander Massialas, was the last person to win that title at the university. Massialas, Olympic silver and bronze medalist, said he's exceeded his expectations in his first coaching season. Access and community are two important missions for Bay FC co-founder Brandi Chastain. Chastain, a World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist, said those are her goals while serving as a member of the Bay Area Host Committee, a nonprofit bringing world-class sporting events to the Bay Area, starting with this weekend's NBA All-Star festivities. First up is the NBA All-Star Game, the first of three global sporting events in the Bay Area over the next two years. It's not exactly traditional volleyball but Chinese volleyball. The game isn't as well known in the U.S., but it is a global event. Every Labor Day weekend, a tournament is played, and this year up to 3,000 players will take part in the 79th annual North American Chinese Invitational Volleyball tournament at San Francisco's Moscone Center. The event was last held in the city in 2007. It's a celebration of sports, history, community and family.

The USWNT is gearing up to play Brazil in the gold-medal match of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Heading into the Olympics, USA was co-favorited alongside Spain to win gold. Brazil upset La Roja in the semifinal match and France in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, USA beat Germany in its semifinal match and Japan in the quarterfinals. Saturday's game will be the third time that Team USA and Brazil match up in the Olympic finals. The prior times were in 2004 and 2004 where the US won both matchups.
