The trial of Filip Grkovski continued at the University Courthouse in Toronto Thursday, with the testimony of a passenger who became trapped inside a capsized powerboat on May 31, 2022. Zaynab Altakawee described the hours leading up to the crash on Lake Ontario that would claim the lives of fellow passengers Megan Wu, 24, and Julio Abrantes, 34. Altakawee described a day of drinking and partying, with Grkovski opening a bottle of champagne soon upon her arrival on his boat.

The Toronto police officer accused of stealing personal belongings from the dead while on duty was back in court Thursday and spent the afternoon on the stand being cross-examined by the Crown. Earlier this week, lawyers went over what occurred on Feb. 18, 2022, when Const. Boris Borissov was called to investigate the apartment of a missing man, who was later found to have died by suicide. When Borissov searched the home, he found an empty box for a Tag Heuer watch.

The woman charged in connection with a dog attack in Toronto that left a nine-year-old child with "life-altering injuries" has previously been found by a court to be an irresponsible dog owner, CTV News has learned. On Saturday morning, a family's day out at a playground near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Bathurst Street took a turn when an off-leash dog charged toward the child through an open gate.

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is defending the way it responded to reports of asbestos discovered at a middle school in the city’s east end, even as some parents raise concerns that they weren’t notified sooner. Queen Alexandra Middle School, located at Broadview Avenue and Dundas Street East, with more than 400 students, reported traces of asbestos on Dec. 14.
