DEADWOOD — Belle Fourche scored nine runs in the second inning Thursday evening and defeated Lead-Deadwood 10-0 in a varsity high school baseball game played at Keene Park. Play ended after six innings because of the 10-run rule. “We were a little too impatient at the plate first inning. We just made that correction for the second inning,” said Belle Fourche head coach Randy Doran, whose team collected seven hits in that second frame and took advantage of two Lead-Deadwood errors.

SPEARFISH — Spearfish managed only two hits Friday evening and dropped an 11-0 decision to Brookings in a varsity girls’ softball game played at the Keating Resources SportsPlex. Play ended after five innings because of the 10-run rule. “We made a lot of solid contact: unfortunately, right to them (Brookings fielders) most of the time,” Spartans’ head coach Bell Luebken said. She added Brookings’ offense got the team ahead, and the Bobcats’ defense was clean.
