The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will begin its five-day closure of State Route 18 beneath the Interstate 90 bridges Thursday. The closure will run from 9 p.m. on May 29 to 5 a.m. on June 4. “Despite the rain this morning, we are expecting to move forward with the closure,” David Rasbach with WSDOT told KIRO 7. The work was postponed earlier this month because of rainy conditions.

Mail theft is rampant, and the City of SeaTac has had its fair share. “We would hear about people having their mail stolen at least once or twice a week, if not more,” said Councilmember Peter Kwon. Kwon says he’s dealt first-hand with mail theft. “Not all locking mailboxes are created equal. The one I initially got for myself was broken into the very same week I installed it, so I realized, ok, we’ve got to find a better one,” said Kwon.

TUMWATER, Wash. — Students at Tumwater Middle School claim there is sexual harassment going on between students, and now, the Tumwater School District is hiring an independent investigator to look into those allegations. Last Friday, dozens of kids protested student-to-student sexual harassment that has allegedly taken place at their school. “It’s like a huge problem,” said one student. KIRO 7 talked with a mother about what she heard from her daughter, who is an eighth grader at the school.

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — 33-year-old Raul Benitez-Santana sat silent during Monday’s hearing as a judge ruled on a motion to have the case against him dismissed. The Mexican national is accused of DUI and causing a crash on I-5 near Marysville that killed 27-year-old Washington State Trooper Christopher Gadd in March of 2024. Investigators said Benitez-Santana was going more than 100 miles an hour when he slammed into the back of the trooper’s cruiser.
