20 people were impacted by a lighting strike that hit Lake Murray, Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Joshua Boucher [email protected] Twenty people were shocked by a lightning bolt that struck Lake Murray Tuesday afternoon, according to Lexington County officials. The lightning strike occurred around 5 p.m. Those transported to the hospital included six adults and 12 children, according to a Lexington County spokesperson. Two others were treated and released at the scene.

A Lexington man, who formerly served 20 years for lynching has been sentenced to life in prison in a 2021 murder, according to the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Mark A. Scheibler, 50, was sentenced to life in prison by Circuit Judge Walton J. McLeod IV for the murder of Jimmy Ferney Johnson, a news release said. He was also convicted of possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

A Spartanburg County woman was charged with trafficking multiple minors for sex acts, SLED says. A South Carolina woman was arrested after trafficking children in sex work, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Brooke Elizabeth-Louise Foster, 32, of Spartanburg, was charged Tuesday with five counts of trafficking in persons under 18, a news release said. The victims were all 16 years old. Between Jan. 20 and Feb.

A man has been charged with murder after the disappearance of a Midlands mom and her 2-year-old son nearly two years ago, according to police. Jonas Jerry Washington, 26, was taken into custody this week after police say he killed Sophia Van Dam, then 20, and kidnapped her son Matteo, then 2, in 2023 in Beaufort County, according to a news release.
