Toronto’s first professional women’s soccer team now has major ties to metro Detroit. Birmingham resident and Canadian-American investor Mark Mitchell on April 15 signed on as the majority owner of AFC Toronto. AFC Toronto and five other Canada-based clubs are all in the first season of the women-founded Northern Super League. Each team is based in a different Canadian province. “I got in on the ground floor,” Mitchell said. “I’m very excited. I’m very supportive of women’s sports.

Five-time James Beard Award semifinalist Ji Hye Kim plans to open fast-casual restaurant Little Kim in June at 407 N. Fifth Ave. The chef's new vegan and vegetarian venture will be next door to her first Korean-forward restaurant, Miss Kim, in Ann Arbor's Kerrytown neighborhood.

University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore could be suspended for two games next season as part of self-imposed sanctions put in place by the school related to the Connor Stalions illegal scouting scandal, according to media reports. ESPN on Monday first reported that Moore would be suspended for UM’s week 3 home game against Central Michigan University and a week 4 road game at Nebraska.
