With some considerable help from the defense and special teams, BYU’s offense was able to help the Cougars go 11-2 last year, tie for first place in the Big 12’s regular season, and dominate Colorado in the Alamo Bowl. When the dust had settled, offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick’s group finished the season ranked 59th in total offense, averaging a respectable 392.3 yards per game.

A lot of tough conversations have taken place in the BYU football offices at the Student Athlete Building the past three weeks, as coaches have started the unpleasant process of narrowing the roster to 105 players before the 2025 season. Already, more than a dozen guys have entered the transfer portal since spring camp ended at the end of March, most of them having been told that there’s no room for them in the program any longer.

The numbers everyone was talking about after Jakob Robinson ran the 40-yard dash at the Big 12 Pro Days last month in Frisco, Texas, were 4.39 - the former BYU cornerback's unofficial time in that drill. However, it was another number that Robinson was just as proud to see posted: 181. That's what the former Orem High and Utah State player weighed in at, after playing the 2024 season under 170 lbs. "I felt really good about my Pro Day performance, actually," Robinson said last week.
