The Food & Drug Administration approved Yeztugo (Lenacapavir) Wednesday It’s a twice-yearly injectable for preventing the virus. “If you stay in a rural area and you can’t always get to your doctor because of transportation, you can now plan months ahead of time,” said Natasha Thomas with the AIDS Services Coalition.

PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) - With the Fourth of July two weeks away, fireworks stands are going up all over the Pine Belt. Tariffs on products made in China could light a fire under prices this year. Earlier this year, the Trump Administration placed a 145% tariff on Chinese imports, later lowering it to 30% in May. According to the American Pyrotechnics Association, the United States relies almost entirely on Chinese imports for fireworks each year.

ELLISVILLE, Miss. (WDAM) - As rain poured in Ellisville Thursday, family and community members poured libations remembering the 1919 lynching of John Hartfield. Hartfield was around 26 years old when he returned to Ellisville from St. Louis. A short time later, Hartfield was accused of raping a white woman by the name of Ruth Meeks. “The individuals in the Town of Ellisville took the law into their own hands,” event organizer Marian Allen said. Several state newspapers followed the ensuing manhunt.

LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) - A Laurel 14-year-old was charged as an adult with attempted murder in a shooting that sent another teen to the hospital. Tamarian Barnes was charged Thursday in connection to a Saturday shooting that critically wounded JaQuan Dean, Laurel Police Department Capt. Michael Reaves said. The shooting took place as Dean sat in a car near Susie B. Ruffin Avenue between East 18th and Chantilly streetsDean was taken to Forrest General Hospital in critical condition, Reaves said.
