NORWALK, Conn. — Norwalk Public Schools is helping students shine this prom season with its second annual “Say Yes to a Prom Dress & Suit” event, hosted by the NPS Family Center throughout April and May. Starting Saturday, April 5, high school juniors and seniors are invited to visit the Family Center at 1 Park St. to browse a wide selection of formalwear—completely free of charge.

Thirty-four roads paved, 5+ miles of sidewalks added, 24,000+ tons of solid waste collected, 521 trees planted. These were some of the highlights that Vanessa Valadares, Norwalk’s Chief of Operations and Public Works shared with the Common Council’s Public Works Committee on January 2. “We usually try every January to put our numbers together on some of the things that we collect the metrics on,” Valadares said, adding that the presentation would be especially helpful for new Council members.

Fire was showing through the first-floor windows when fire crews arrived and the fire was controlled with first due assignment, he said. According to John Levin, the Kwanzaa celebration held Dec. 29 in City Hall was Norwalk’s best holiday observance ever. “It was joyous, educational, exceptionally well attended by people of all ages and from across Norwalk, and just a lot of fun,” Levin wrote. “The African drumming and dancing was spectacular.

Norwalk’s 2024 residential Christmas tree pickups have been scheduled, according to a news release. Remove all decorations, lights, and stands, and put your discarded tree at the curb by 6 a.m. on the Monday of your designated week. Week of Jan. 8: residents whose regular recycling collection is on Mondays and Tuesdays. Week of Jan. 15: residents whose regular recycling collection is on Wednesdays (Excluding any collection services on Monday Jan. 15, which is Martin Luther King Day). Week of Jan.
