DANVILLE — A murder trial that was to start Tuesday for Brandon Buford in Vermilion County Circuit Court has been continued. According to Lucy Overlander with the Vermilion County State's Attorney's Office, the delay is due to the defendant hiring a new attorney. "We believe it will go to trial sometime in the summer," Overlander said.

DANVILLE — A rally in support of veterans, the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System and democracy will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday in Danville. The rally will be in front of the VA, 1900 E. Main St. It's sponsored by Citizens in Support of Veterans and Indivisibles Vermilion County. Its purpose is to stand up for the rights and well-being of veterans, express support for the dedicated employees of the VA, and advocate for the protection of our democracy, according to organizers.

DANVILLE — Vermilion County Circuit Court Judge Nicolas Boileau approved the additions Friday of Seven Point cannabis dispensary and record store and AutoZone Distribution Center joining the fight to stop the Danville Correctional Center from reopening its firing range. Both businesses filed petitions to intervene, to be added to the parties in the litigation, on Monday and Thursday, respectively.

OAKWOOD — The weather doesn’t look ideal, but Kickapoo State Recreation Area is welcoming back those who love to be in nature for some firsts of the year. Brandon Damm with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources said there a few changes in store this year. “Kickapoo Bar and Grill will be offering breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.,” he said, and “staff are completing the installation of new block privies (outhouses) around the park.

DANVILLE — The Danville City Council has officially come out against a nearby state prison's effort to reinstate a firing range on its property. On Tuesday night, the council approved a one-page resolution to the oppose the Danville Correctional Center’s motion to vacate a permanent injunction and restore its firing range.
