One person is dead, and two others injured as a vehicle struck a utility truck being used by a crew working on power lines at the intersection off State Route 71 and Land Drive just south of Wewahitchka. According to the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred about 12:35 CT when the vehicle hit the utility truck. Two utility workers were transported to the hospital it said. The Florida Highway Patrol, which is investigating the accident, said the roadways are clear as of 2:30 p.m..

The jobless rate along the Forgotten Coast was little changed in April, as the labor force expanded and now exceeds one year agoAccording to preliminary data released Friday by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Franklin County’s jobless rate was unchanged at 3.8 percent, while in Gulf, it dropped slightly from 3.6 to 3.5 percent. In Franklin, two workers joined the unemployment line, raising it to 171 as the labor force grew by 44 workers, from 4,419 to 4,463.

After solid performances at the April 22 district meet in Wewahitchka, all three girls track and field teams from the Forgotten Coast – Wewahitchka, Port St. Joe and Franklin County, completed their seasons in May at the regional meet at Pine Forest, with the top finishers moving on to the state meet in Jacksonville. Blountstown dominated the district meet, but it was a close contest, with Port St. Joe finishing just behind the Lady Tigers, 226 to 214.
