A scary situation unfolded in rural Elk Township in Vinton County on Wednesday morning, June 11, that resulted in township residents as well as the Village of Zaleski residents having to evacuate for safety reasons. The evacuation orders were issued by the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office after Austin Powder’s Red Diamond Plant near Zaleski had a hazardous-materials incident.

It’s been years in the making, but “The World’s Largest Acorn” project is complete and an unveiling date has been scheduled. The Oak Hill Area Chamber of Commerce was thrilled to announce that the unveiling of “The World’s Largest Acorn” will be on Saturday, June 14, at 12 p.m. at Central Memorial Park in the Village of Oak Hill. It was revealed that the acorn has been weighed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. It tipped the scales at a whopping 2,835 pounds.
