Hard work and dedication was honored last week as friends and family gathered to celebrate a group that has brought Cedartown High School back-to-back state championships. Members of the 2024 Cedartown game day cheerleading program were the guests at a special ceremony Sunday, June 1, at the school’s auditorium as they received their state championship rings after winning the Class 4A state title in December.

The annual Polk County Kids Fishing Rodeo was held Saturday at Kenview Farms with families heading out to enjoy a day of fun. The free event, organized by local Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials, welcomed more than 530 kids who registered for prize drawings and enjoyed free hotdogs, drinks, and snacks while trying to catch a whopper or two. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the event, which promotes fishing and getting outdoors.

After nearly two months of searching for a new superintendent, the Polk School District Board of Education has announced interim superintendent Mark Lumpkin is their choice to take on the role full time. Lumpkin, who has been employed by the school district for over 30 years, has served in an administrative role for the entire district since 2007 when he became pre-k director and interventions director.

ROME — The time for second guessing and asking “what if” came to a celebratory end for the Rockmart High School baseball team last week. After coming close to being able to reach the highest summit in Georgia high school baseball in recent seasons, the Yellow Jackets stood tall after the last game of the Class AA state championship series last Wednesday at AdventHealth Stadium in Rome.
