    A man and a teenage boy have been charged over the accidental discharging of a firearm that killed a nine-year-old boy on a property in southern New South Wales. Emergency services were called to a property in Windellama, near Goulburn, about 11:20am on Sunday following reports of a shooting. Officers attached to the Hume Police District were told the nine-year-old had been injured after the accidental discharge of a firearm.

    Anyone who has visited Sydney's CBD in the past 10 days has been told to monitor for symptoms of the potentially deadly Legionnaires' disease after six people were hospitalised. Legionnaires' disease is a severe form of pneumonia that typically develops once a strain of bacteria named Legionella pneumophila (Legionella) infects the lungs. This bacteria is not spread from person to person but through aerosols.

    Before she was given access to the staff hospital car park, Sydney nurse Ruby Tilley was forking out a chunk of her pay to get to work all while facing abuse and threats from strangers. Ms Tilley was on a waitlist for staff parking at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA) in Camperdown for close to three years. During that wait, she was paying over $20 per day to park and sometimes parked in spots that were 2 kilometres from the hospital. "I struggled quite a bit," she said.

    Police investigating a threat made to a mosque in Sydney's south-west have uncovered another threatening message directed at a mosque in a nearby suburb. Lakemba Mosque said on Thursday in a Facebook post it had received a comment on its TikTok account that referenced the Christchurch massacre — a terrorist attack that resulted in 51 deaths in 2019 — on Thursday. NSW Police confirmed it had begun investigating an online threat directed at the mosque.

    The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research has recorded 85 murders in the state last year. It's an increase from 58 murder victims in 2023 and the most murders in New South Wales since 2014. Sydney's eastern suburbs recorded the most murders by statistical area for 2024, with six of the nine victims being related to the Bondi stabbing attack. NSW recorded its highest number of murders in 10 years in 2024.
