We are celebrating a very special birthday this summer at News Channel 3. 75 years ago, WWMT-TV began broadcasting as WKZO-TV. To celebrate, we're highlighting some of the top stories that made history in our West Michigan communities. On June 1st, 1950, WKZO-TV begins broadcasting a television signal in West Michigan, an early affiliate of the CBS network. The station, brought to life by broadcasting pioneer John Fetzer, who 20 years earlier started WKZO AM radio in Kalamazoo.

In 2023, 254 cases of human trafficking were identified in Michigan. That's according to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, which also found the vast majority of cases took place at someone's home. News Channel 3 talked to a survivor who turned the trauma of her childhood into a mission to help others, and did a ride-along with Emmett Township Police to find out the hot spots detectives are targeting. "Oftentimes it's unreported," said Det. Sgt. Richard Mackey with Emmett Township Police.
