By Community Safety Apr 21, 2025 | 3:05 PM ABBOTSFORD — A man is in custody after Abbotsford police caught him stealing Amazon packages from a porch early Sunday morning. Patrol officers were driving along McCallum Road around 5:42 a.m. when they spotted the theft in progress and arrested the suspect. Police say the 32-year-old suspect was already out on bail and breaching a court-ordered curfew at the time of his arrest.

CHILLIWACK — Numerous RCMP officers are involved in an investigation behind Chilliwack’s old Canadian Tire retail store at 7560 Vedder Road. According to witnesses, police cruisers were first spotted in the area late Monday morning. Images from the scene appear to show that a black tent has been set up to assist RCMP investigators in their work. Often, police will set up a tent to protect evidence and officers from weather elements during an investigation.

MONTREAL — A Canadian cardinal was a top contender the last time a new pope was elected, but observers say that’s unlikely to be the case this time around. Canada’s five cardinals all have marks against them, ranging from advanced age to inexperience to allegations of sexual misconduct, according to Vatican experts. “I would be quite surprised if one of them was elected,” said Mark McGowan, a professor of history at the University of St. Michael’s College in Toronto.

LANGLEY. — Police have identified the victim in a Langley homicide that began as a suspicious fire late last week. Langley RCMP were called to a structure fire in the 20500 block of 56 Avenue around 7:24 a.m. on April 18, where a body was discovered inside. The death was deemed suspicious and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in.

While the month-long campaign is already well underway, residents can still register and access free cleanup supplies from the city, including gloves, garbage bags and litter pickers.
