A talented team of young Ennis soccer players have scored big in a nationwide competition winning the opportunity to compete in a major tournament at grounds owned by Atletico Madrid in Spain. The senior team from Coláiste Muire secondary school in Ennis recently reached their goal of winning the U18s girls’ Mad Cup Erasamus School Cup organised by Atletico Madrid’s academy in Dublin.

Sixteen-year-old Shane Gavin from Darragh was celebrated at the recent Irish Red Cross Humanitarian Awards where was among the finalists in the Young Humanitarian of the Year award for his volunteer work supporting Ukrainian civilians affected by war. He was joined by his family at the ceremony in Dublin where he also met An Tánaiste, Simon Harris, TD.

An Ennis personal trainer who has bravely opened up about the damage years of sunbed use has done to her skin has been stunned at the response she has received from people around the world. Karrieann McDonnell, who has just had her 19th skin lesion removed, recently posted on social media about the impact sunbeds have had on her, warning “tan fades, damage doesn’t”.

Headstones are being destroyed, rubbish dumped and walls targetted by graffiti at one of the county’s best known historic sites, sparking calls for the revival of a taskforce to tackle “serious” anti-social behaviour there. The 12th century Clareabbey on the outskirts of Ennis is experiencing anti-social behaviour “on a daily basis” according to Councillor Pat Daly (FF) who said one local family have had to replace their grandparents headstone three times at a cost of €10,000.
