Ten years ago, a simple phrase, “inside out,” became a lifeline for former inmates in Johnson County. The local nonprofit, Inside Out Reentry Community, works with individuals to develop reentry plans after prison that promote healing, restored relationships, and sustained success. To celebrate 10 years of guidance, Inside Out is hosting a free community concert, “Be an Instrument for Change” from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Chauncey Swan Park.

Iowa-based Big Grove Brewery is expanding to its sixth location in the Kansas City metro area in the summer of 2026. Big Grove is introducing an ownership model allowing store directors to become owners in their respective taprooms. The brewery distributes its beverages in six states and has won multiple awards at the Great American Beer Festival. Big Grove Brewery’s reach is expanding beyond Iowa borders.

To mark the end of the academic year, the Iowa City Press-Citizen is celebrating students by publishing several student of the year polls. Throughout the school year, Johnson County high school principals and faculty are asked to nominate students who excel in and out of the classroom as the Press-Citizen’s Student of the Week. Now, the Press-Citizen is highlighting the previous nominees and their academic achievements by giving them a chance to be named Student of the Year.

To mark the end of the academic year, the Iowa City Press-Citizen is celebrating students nominated for Student of the Week. The Student of the Year poll will close at noon on Thursday, May 29. Regina had 10 Student of the Week winners during the 2024-2025 academic year, including: Ella Keune, Abigail Santillan, Claire Boyle, Elsie Gavin, Duong "Justin" Luong, Yuchen Gong, Maddie Squiers, Cora Boblenz, and Caitlyn Bell. The district had 15 nominees in total.
