Greater Iowa City Inc., Community Foundation of Johnson County, and South of 6 are teaming up to offer grants to historically underrepresented small businesses in Johnson County. The final round of ARPA(American Rescue Plan Act)-funded grants will award businesses with $3,500 to $20,000, for essential “growth and stability” assistance. What type of grants are being offered? Two categories of grants are available until April 30.

In a first-of-its-kind move, the Iowa City Community School District has approved a partnership with Junior Achievement to transform its Center for Innovation for hands-on career education. The Iowa City Community School District Board of Directors voted to partner with Junior Achievement for $2.1 million to create K-12 opportunities to help students explore careers and entrepreneurship at the district's still under construction Center for Innovation.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen Student of the Week poll has returned for another round of voting. Each week, Johnson County high school principals and faculty are asked to nominate students who excel in and out of the classroom. The public can vote at press-citizen.com until noon on Thursday, April 10. The winner will be announced on Friday, and an accompanying story will be published in the Press-Citizen. Students from public and private high schools in Johnson County are eligible to participate.
