The tradition's exact origins are unclear, but it likely began to encourage rodeo-themed decorations. The public can participate in a contest to guess the identities of the costumed robbers and win cash prizes. Shasta County high schools celebrate graduations with pomp and circumstance in May and June. Thousands of Shasta County high school seniors — from Redding to Anderson to Cottonwood to Burney — will walk across their alma mater’s stage to receive their diplomas in front of family and friends. A 45-year-old Anderson man is dead and a 41-year-old Palo Cedro woman was seriously injured, after a head-on collision between the Harley Davidson motorcycle on which they were riding and a Honda sedan, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident started around 2:35 p.m. Monday. Whitmore resident Pamela Sutton, 50, was westbound on Whitmore Road in a black 2004 Civic. She drove at a speed between 55 and 60 mph, CHP spokesperson Jason Morton said in a press release.
