Three people have died in traffic accidents on area highways in recent days, including a pedestrian who was killed by a hit-and-run driver. In the most recent incident, a Sewell 17-year-old was fatally injured when his car ran off Route 55 in Deptford on April 16. The southbound vehicle struck a concrete overpass support and a tree near milepost 58.4 at approximately 12:10 a.m., according to New Jersey State Police. The youth's name was not released.

A Camden recycling firm plans to spend $6.7 million in response to a massive blaze that forced neighbors from their homes and sent black smoke billowing across parts of South Jersey in February. The outlay by EMR will fund a new fire-suppression system at the firm's metals-recycling facility on the 1400 block of South Front Street, according to information provided by Camden County.

The covered traffic signals are part of a $152-million project to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. The project includes upgrading 28 traffic signals with adaptive systems, pedestrian countdown signals and new lighting. Testing of the new signals is underway and expected to be completed by fall 2025 in one area and winter 2026 in another. For the time being, feel free to ignore some traffic lights on a busy highway corridor in South Jersey.

Glassboro resident Ivory Cousins, 35, was accused of ignoring the inmate's injuries after an assault at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Philadelphia.
