Three people have died in traffic accidents on area highways in recent days, including a pedestrian who was killed by a hit-and-run driver. The covered traffic signals are part of a $152-million project to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. The project includes upgrading 28 traffic signals with adaptive systems, pedestrian countdown signals and new lighting. Testing of the new signals is underway and expected to be completed by fall 2025 in one area and winter 2026 in another.
