When we predicted that “Ninety percentage of data breaches will include a human element” in Predictions 2024: Cybersecurity, Risk, And Privacy, we learned that not all publications, standards, or regulations mean the same thing when they talk about “human element” breaches. Verizon’s Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) states that human element breaches, which form 68% of total breaches, include social engineering, BEC, human error, pretexting and use of stolen credentials.

Last week, CrowdStrike held its yearly user conference, Fal.Con, in Las Vegas. The conference comes just two short months after CrowdStrike issued a config update that took down 8.5 million Windows endpoints which disrupted air travel, hospitals, media outlets, and impacted many other industries. Despite the incident (or perhaps because of it), the event was well-attended, with over 6 thousand attendees, surpassing CrowdStrike’s initial expectations.
