    The Mason County Sheriff’s office is warning people of a new speed limit change in the village of Custer. Starting Monday, Sheriff Kim Cole said the speed limit will be reduced three times a day from 50 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour on US 10 in the area of Mason County Eastern schools. The reductions to the speed limit will coincide with the times that kids are coming or leaving school. The times are 7:45 to 8:15 am, 11:50 to 12:20 pm. and 3:15 to 3:45 pm.

    A Cadillac homeowner is pushing for change, asking the prosecutor to look into what he calls missteps with the Local Development Finance Authority. The LDFA is in charge of clean-up in the Industrial Park area where PFAS were discovered recently in private wells. Long time resident Brad Marine said he mailed that request to the Wexford County Prosecutor’s office over the weekend, hoping they will investigate violations he’s accusing the LDFA board of making.

    Cadillac Advocates for Clean Water are trying to piece together how the city of Cadillac has found itself with an emerging PFAS or forever chemical situation. The grassroots organization was formed back in December after PFAS were found at unsafe levels in Cadillac’s Industrial Park area. The group’s co-founder, Susan Giftos said she started the online group back in December after noticing that a lot of people had many unanswered questions. She said what they discovered is extremely concerning.

    A familiar face with the Michigan State Police in Northern Michigan is about to turn in his badge, retiring after decades on the job. Lt. Derrick Carroll has been with MSP for close to 30 years. He held various roles in different parts of the state, starting his career in Alpena, then working in Detroit and Grand Rapids, before landing back here in Northern Michigan.

    Tightlines for Troops is making another call for help, this after their last request for more veterans to sign up, resulted in a big response. Board member Craig Kent said the non-profit is now looking for some more boats to take the record number of veterans that have recently signed-up, for their annual fishing tournament that’s happening May 16th and 17th. The only requirements are the boats have to be 25 feet in length and have the proper gear to fish on lake Michigan for Trout and Salmon.
