Dec. 15—PAYNESVILLE — It was a big matchup in what should be a month of them for the Paynesville girls basketball team. With the game close, the Bulldogs cranked up the defense and beat Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 59-48 in a Central Minnesota Conference game Friday night. It was the first game of a girls/boys doubleheader featuring BBE and the Bulldogs. "We made a great defensive adjustment and I think that flustered them." Paynesville head coach Jacob Heimerman said.

Dec. 4—CLARA CITY — The Central Minnesota Christian School girls basketball team's scrappy defense led to a Camden Conference victory over MACCRAY on Monday. CMCS beat the Wolverines 58-47 en route to its second consecutive conference win and third straight victory overall. The Bluejays are 2-0 in the Camden North and 3-1 overall. COLLEGEVILLE — Brock Humbert knows he's not the biggest or fastest guy on the football field. The ROCORI High School graduate and Cold Spring native was part of the 2019 Class 4A state championship team there and played a pivotal role as a starting linebacker. But he tore an ACL in one of his knees early in that season and was slowed down by the injury. Instead of having surgery on the knee, Humbert elected to play through it.

Oct. 8—COLLEGEVILLE — Nick McKenzie is finding his place along the St. John's offensive line. A junior for the Johnnies' football squad and a 2021New London-Spicergrad, McKenzie has started in all five of the team's games this season at left guard, including a 42-23 victory over Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday. "We've seen a lot out of him and he's just gotten better and better every week," said Gary Fasching, SJU's head coach for 11 seasons.
