Sheffield Wednesday only have 16 first team players currently contracted for next season, and six of them are aged 21 or younger. A summer of change awaits for Wednesday once again, with wholesale changes expected at Hillsborough as at least 16 players see their current deals coming to an end. It was revealed by The Star yesterday that Ryo Hatsuse’s contract is also up at the end of June, adding him to the list of those who could end up moving on.

It’s understood that at least 15 senior contracts will expire at the end of June, and while there has not yet been any word on the club’s retained list just yet, there are expected to be a number that have now played their final game in Owls colours.

Cambridge confirmed that the 32-year-old, who spent a spell on loan with the Owls in 2014, had left the club ‘by mutual agreement’ just one season into the two-year deal that he signed back in July.
