    Four council-owned buildings across Rotherham are set to undergo major green upgrades next year, thanks to a £265,000 government grant aimed at cutting carbon emissions and slashing energy bills. The funding, awarded through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS), will help replace outdated gas boilers with low-carbon air source heat pumps at three sites: Springwell Gardens, Swinton Customer Service Centre and Library, and 115 Middle Lane South.

    A South Yorkshire MP has welcomed what has been described as the largest ever crackdown on the water industry, as the Environment Agency launches new investigations into Yorkshire Water. The new data, released by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), shows that 81 criminal investigations into water companies have been launched across England since the general election in July 2024.

    Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council has confirmed that advisory “keep clear” markings will be installed on Shaw Lane following a petition from residents calling for parking restrictions on Limes Avenue in Staincross. The petition, signed by 79 people and submitted in April, asked the council to implement restrictions near the junction with Shaw Lane due to concerns over road safety and visibility.

    Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council has approved the abolition of the £31 charge for replacement recycling bins, as part of a wider £2.3 million investment into modernising waste and recycling services across the borough. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, May 28, and means that residents will be able to request new or replacement bins free of charge, in a bid to remove financial barriers to recycling.

Drove past Sheffield a few times over the years & always wondered what they were building with all the cranes. Every year the cranes were there & I said to my husband how long have they been building there? The look on his face when he told me it was a crane yard.
