ST. PAUL, Minn - The idea first came to Filip Gustavsson the night before Tuesday's regular-season finale. The Wild goaltender was going to find a way to get Marc-Andre Fleury another chance to play in front of the Xcel Energy Center crowd. He'd fake a lace issue on his skate late in the game if they were up big - whatever it took.

ST. LOUIS - David Carle has already heard it. The University of Denver coach, less than 24 hours removed from a gut-punch, double-overtime loss in its Frozen Four semifinal, hugged Zeev Buium goodbye after last week's Hobey Baker ceremony. Buium, one of the best players in program history, was off to join the Minnesota Wild. The Pioneers' top two scorers - Jack Devine (Florida Panthers) and Aidan Thompson (Chicago Blackhawks) - are gone, too.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - After the heart-thumping way the Minnesota Wild clinched a playoff berth, Marc-Andre Fleury figured he'd get to relax in overtime. The drama was already over, right? The "choose your hard" Wild decided 22 seconds left in the 82-game season was the fitting time to finally seal their trip to the postseason.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - During a two-on-one drill in Tuesday's Minnesota Wild morning skate, Zeev Buium was in between two veteran forwards, Marcus Foligno and Marcus Johansson. Johansson sent a saucer pass across the ice. Buium snagged it with his stick out of mid-air, knocking it down. Johansson and Foligno both smiled. "Zeev!" Foligno yelled. The Wild see the talent in Buium, 19, the team's top prospect, who just signed after his University of Denver career ended on Thursday in the Frozen Four.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Zeev Buium was partway through his first media scrum since joining the Minnesota Wild on Monday when he experienced a rite of passage:A Marc-Andre Fleury prank. Fleury, 40, ducked behind cameras and tossed a white practice jersey, which landed right on Buium's face. Buium, 19, laughed and said it wasn't the first time that day that the future Hall of Famer had gotten him. "I was sitting in the theater room, and he told me to sit somewhere," Buium said.

Being around @DU_Hockey /Zeev Buium this week like I was with @GopherHockey/ Brock Faber couple Frozen Fours ago, you can see the similarities in how beloved they are by teammates. Their passion for the game + their school. Two high character + high quality d-men to build around
