While walking along the beach at Stearns Park Tom Lyon and his son, Joe, would come across a beach toy here and there, the toy was undoubtedly left behind accidentally or simply fell out of a wagon that was overloaded with items for the beach. Lyon began to think of ways that those beach toys (many still in good shape) could be reused by children or families coming to spend the day along the lake Michigan shoreline.

As the Fourth of July holiday approaches many are looking forward to a week of activities that include fireworks, parades, art fairs and good food. The Ludington Area Jaycees’ Freedom Festival activities kick off with the annual Children and Pet Parade on Wednesday, July 3rd, at the south end of Ferry Street, the line-up begins at 5 p.m. with the parade stepping off at 6 p.m. Participants will line up at the corner of Ferry and Loomis streets, the parade will head east to Waterfront Park.

#WillStrong tournament brings friends, family and soccer lovers together

Hundreds of soccer enthusiasts gathered at Bryant Soccer Field in Ludington for the fourth annual #WillStrong Soccer Tournament on Sunday. The soccer tournament, a charity event to raise money for families who are dealing with cancer, it was established by Will Flewelling — with the help of his cousin Kyle Gurzynski and other family members in 2021 — wanted to find a way to continue to help others fighting cancer. The tournament was moved from Saturday to Sunday due to the weather conditions.
Large crowds gather at state park beach house for reptile and amphibian display

On a rain-filled day Saturday hundreds of people gathered at the Ludington State Park Beach House to learn more about the State’s reptiles and amphibians. The display was part of the park’s summer program, which features daily activities for young and old alike. Saturday’s program features Jim and Carol McGrath of Nature Discovery displaying and talking about several of the state’s reptiles and amphibians, which were on hand for people to see up close and some, like the snakes for people to hold.
Annual tie-dye event draws large crowd to ludington library

The annual summer reading program at the Ludington library drew a number of children hoping to create a patriotic T-shirt on Monday. The theme for the Summer Reading Program is Adventure Begins at Your Library, according to Emiy Garland, Head of Youth Services. The library was prepared for the number of children, offering extra help at every station and by giving the children a color and helping them through each station by that color.
